Introducing the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Charitable Trust Website - The Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Charitable Trust (www.kpjtrust.org) was formally established in January 2006 to promote and support local organizations in Mysore, India who are working for the public good and societal benefit. The mission is to aid and organize charitable activities that help the aged, disabled, down trodden, and physically and/or mentally challenged by providing required support, education, training and rehabilitation programs, with the goal to make them self-sustaining. The Mysore Style Book, a limited edition book launched in honor of the SKPJ Charitable Trust, is available from Ashtanga.com. Photographer Graeme Montgomery, art director Giles Kershaw and stylist/illustrator Mark Whitaker documented the occasion of Guruji's 90th birthday and photographed the incredible mix of yogis who had gathered in Mysore. Mysore Style is a 220-page coffee table style book featuring 170 color and B&W photographs; contributions from students and teachers including John Scott, Lino Miele, David Swenson, Hamish Hendry, David Life and Sharon Gannon. All profits from book sales are donated to the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Charitable Trust. Ashtanga Yoga Frankfurt, Germany, is looking for a traveling teacher to substitute for the owner for two weeks in January 2009. The substitute teacher will be responsible for running the complete school. Apartment for free. German language is important. Perfect would be a dog-friendly teacher who is also taking care of my dog, but this is not most important. Interested, please visit www.ashtanga-frankfurt.de and/or contact ashtanga (at) t-online (dot) de. Ashtanga in Rwanda - Volunteer Opportunities .
If you are a qualified teacher of Ashtanga Yoga and want to do more with your practice, then please consider volunteering your services to a new program designed to offer Ashtanga Yoga instruction to HIV-positive women and children in Rwanda. By donating a minimum of 3 months of your time, you can help women, girls and their families--many of whom are survivors of genocidal rape and sexual violence--regain their sense of physical integrity and find some peace of mind. Ashtanga in Rwanda (AIR) is a new initiative developed by WE-ACTx, an international organization launched by frontline AIDS physicians, activists and researchers to increase the access of women and children in Rwanda to HIV testing, care, treatment, support, education and training. By volunteering, you can help provide what traditional medical care cannot and, in doing so, serve to exemplify the spirit of Karma Yoga. For more information about becoming an AIR volunteer, please visit www.we-actxyoga.org.
